Botox

Botox is a brand name that has been popularly used and has been synonymous to BOtolinium TOXin. It is a neurotoxin that is clinically used in minute quantities to treat strabismus and facial spasm as well as other neurological disorders that is characterized by abnormal contraction of the muscles. However, it has been popular for its increased widespread used in cosmetic treatment and cosmetic therapy to flatten out wrinkles.

Botox therapy has been approved as a temporary treatment for moderate to severe frown lines between the brows of people aged 18-65.

Cosmetic denervation (loss of nerve supply due to chemical) using Botox is a simple and yet effective and safe procedure treatment. During the process, with the use of micro needles, a small amount of Botox is injected very precisely into various parts of the face. As the needle used is very fine and only a small amount of liquid is injected, the pain associated with the therapy procedure is very minimal. No sedation or local anesthesia is used during the therapy procedure, most of the time though; the area to be injected is numbed with an ice ball to prevent any discomfort during the injection.

The effects of Botox cosmetic treatment to facial wrinkles though is not permanent and can only last from three to six months, cosmetic treatment may have to be taken two to four times a year. The duration of cosmetic treatment benefit though increases overtime thus, less Botox injection will be required in the future. It is also noted that the duration of its effects differ from patient to patient and is seen less effective to those 65 years of age and older.

Botox Cosmetic is the only FDA-approved botulinum toxin-A which is commercially available to use for medical and cosmetic purposes. Botox is considered safe and effective, but possible Botox side effects and Botox risks can still occur.

Health problems and other adverse conditions can lead to Botox risks and Botox side effects, which is why it is imperative for patients to account every medical or health problem they have when it is time to consult a cosmetic surgeon.
