Anti Frown Line

Frown lines are located in several anatomical points on our face. These are also called "expression" or "smile" lines. Whenever we frown, smile, or make different expressions on our face, the muscles tighten and cause wrinkles to form. Even aging and sun exposure can result to fine lines appearance. When this happens, a good anti frown line treatment should be provided.

There are various frown line treatments available today. And one of the most popular and effective solution to this problem is Botox. The procedure may be performed on various areas of the face. Learn more about frown lines and its solutions by reading the sections found below.

Horizontal Forehead Lines

The wrinkles are oriented horizontally in this type of frown line. Whenever you elevate eyebrows, you will feel the forehead muscles tightening and you can see appearances of wrinkles. Botox injections done in this area should be carefully performed to avoid temporary drooping of eyelids. This area also requires lesser toxin administration because it is made up of fibrous muscles.

About three to five lines are targeted in every Botox procedure. The space in between injection sites should be about 1-2 cm. About 2 units of the toxin will be used to treat wrinkles on this area. A "V" configuration of the site is noted so efficacy of the procedure is attained.

The treatment may last 10 minutes with the person seated. Staying in an upright position for two to three hours is also advised after the procedure. Several days after the treatment, you will be instructed to visit the doctor's clinic again.

Glabellar Frown Lines

These frown lines are the most common reasons for a Botox procedure. The folds in this area are caused by vertically oriented fibers which are found on the glabellar area.

When treating Glabellar frown lines, about 5 sites are to be administered with the toxin. About 25 units are used for all five sites. One is injected in the corrugator muscle and the other four are distributed around and on the sides of this muscle.

Initially, the patient will be asked to frown and scowl so the target muscles can be palpated by the Botox therapist. The injections are then administered to various sites. The depth of injection is usually different for every individual. An EMG may also be necessary to spot the right site for injection. The same instructions will be given by the doctor. Bending over should not be done until four hours after the procedure. You are also asking to rest in an upright position to avoid the medication from being absorbed by other muscles.

Lateral Canthal Lines

Aging and sun damage are the usual causes of fine lines appearing in these areas. Like the other frown lines, these can be treated with Botox.

The lateral canthal lines are arranged in a circular pattern that surrounds the eyes. The contraction of the small muscles found in these areas produce wrinkles easily.

Three to four injections are administered which is 1cm apart from each other. About 2 to 3 units of the toxin are used. If high doses are given, double vision or ptosis will be the effects. Although all side effects are relieved almost instantly, the practitioner should avoid negative changes so the patient can experience an excellent Botox therapy.
